Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.

answer1:volt finds out that tao is late. tao wants to draw but it is illegal for him in his village.
answer2:i think tao will arrive earlier from now on. i think eventually he will become an official cave painter.
Chapter 2
What two important events happen in this chapter?
answer1:tao needs to find food.
answer2:the wolf has something in its jaw that may cause it to die.

Chapter 3
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together?

2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?

3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.
answer1:they learn to hunt together.
answer2:he tells him he should use wolf dogs to hunt.

answer:tao can finally hear about his mother after 14 years. his mother is a kind beautiful woman that is crafty and a visionary person. she is kind enough not to give him up to be eaten by hyenas because he is crippled. she is very crafty and makes necklaces out of grass

answer1:gray beard realizes that tao hunts with a wolf dog and hunts in forbidden land.

answer3:graybeard thinks of volt as good.

Chapter 7
Write your reaction to the last paragraph in the chapter. Do you agree or disagree with Graybeard? Is what he says true for those times, but not now? Or, is the reverse true: was it not true then, but true now?
answer1:i was shocked to see him so angry.

Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today.

answer1:i imagine someone wanting to work making tattoos and making them on other people's skin.

answer1:i think graybeard changed his mind because he wanted to return tao's kindness.
answer2:this tells me graybeard is a kind fair person.

answer1:the mountains that walk are the mammoth.
answer2:tao was almost killed.

Chapter 11
Do you think Graybeard is a good teacher? Why?
Would you like to have been taught a skill by him? Why?
answer1:i think he is a good teacher because he doesn't disipline to you to much.
answer2:i would because he is old and full of wisdom.

Chapter 12
1. Name some of the ingredients used to make paint. Which surprised you most?
2. Why is Tao afraid at the end of the chapter?
answer1:Fish oil, animal blood, animal fat, duck eggs. the animal fat.
answer2:he is afraid because he thinks graybeard might die.
Chapter 13
1. Even if Ram had succeeded in hunting the deer, do you think it was a good idea of Tao's to "show off" his dog's ability to hunt? Explain.
2. Predict what will happen next. If you've read ahead, invent an alternate scene.
answer1:yes because volt might change his mind and think ram is a good hunter.
answer2:i think ram will be killed.
